Photosynthesis

TEK 7.5A

TermDefinition
Photosynthesis A process where plants use light, water, and carbon dioxide to produce glucose (sugar) and oxygen. The reaction ONLY occurs in the presence of light energy.
Photosynthesis takes in Carbon Dioxide
Respiration takes in Oxygen
Radiant Energy Energy from the Sun that reaches Earth as visible light, ultraviolet radiation, and infrared (heat) radiation. It is the energy used in photosynthesis.
Reactant A substance that takes part in and undergoes change during a chemical reaction.
Atom The smallest particle of an element; made of electrons, protons, and neutrons.
Chemical Energy Energy stored in chemical bonds and released through chemical reactions.
Chemical Reaction The process by which one or more substances CHANGE to produce one or more different substances.
Glucose SUGAR! Made of 6 carbon atoms; it is the preferred energy used in cells. A product of photosynthesis.
Molecule The simplest unit of a chemical compound that can exist, formed when 2 or more atoms join together chemically.
Product A substance produced during a chemical reaction.
Reactant A substance that takes part in and undergoes change in a chemical reaction.
Reactants of photosynthesis Carbon Dioxide & Water
Products of photosynthesis Oxygen & Glucose (sugar)
Main source of energy used for photosynthesis The Sun
Photosynthesis is a Chemical change that is summarized in a single chemical equation, but that equation is actually the sum total of a collection of chemical reactions.
In photosynthesis, Radiant energy from plants in converted into Chemical Energy
Plants store energy in the form of Glucose
Chloroplast An organelle in specific plant cells, such as leaves, where photosynthesis occurs.
Chorophyll Within chloroplast; pigments that capture energy from solar radiation and power the chemical process.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
