diabetes mellitus failure of the body to use glucose effectively
T1DM DM from autoimmune destruction of the pancreatic islet cells usually develops during childhood
T2DM DM that includes cellular resistance to insulin usually in older populations and those with poor lifestyle habits
hyperglycemia excess glucose in the blood
glycosuria excess glucose in urine
ketoacidosis the accumulation of ketone bodies and a shift toward acidosis
metabolic syndrome hyperglycemia as a result of insulin resistance associated with other metabolic disorders
HbAc1 test glycated hemoglobin test measures future glucose uptake by red blood cells
insulin shock a condition as a result from insulin overdose
hypoglycemia low blood glucose
