Computer Terms 1

Basic computer vocabulary

TermDefinition
mouse Hardware used to point at and select (click on) items on the screen
keyboard Hardware used to type letters and numbers and to enter instructions into the computer
CPU Central processing unit (also called the system unit). It it is the "brain" of the computer and contains its processor and memory.
monitor Hardware with a screen that displays information a user enters into the computer
hardware
software Instructions that tells the computer what to do (also called "applications"). Examples: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Paint, Windows Media Player

Voices
