| What is the Parkinson's Disease? | A chronic progressive neurologic condition that affects the motor system. An increase in dopamine in the substantia nigra in the basal ganglia in the brain.

| What are the four main symptoms that can help classify PD? | Bradykinesia, rigidity, tremor and postural instability.

| What is Primary Parkinson Disease? | The most common type of PD also called Idiopathic PD.

| What is Secondary Parkinsonism? | due to another disease such as alcoholism, TBI, psychotropic meds.

| What is Parkinson-plus Syndromes? | Multisytem atrophy, progressive supranuclear palsy and Shy-Drager syndrome along with other symptoms of cerebellar dysfunction and dysautonomia.

| What is the incidence of PD? | Baby boomers-the disease pogresses and is more common with age. This disease occurs between the ages of 50-79 years. 10% of cases occur before age 40.

| A client that presents with PD will have? | Performance in ADL's will be affected. Slowing of oral movements can cause difficulty with speech. Micographia- small and cramped handwriting. Akinesia. Rigidity in trunk and extremities inability to swing the arms during walking.

| What are some typical features of PD? | Flexed posture, masked facies, dsyphagia, festinating gait, freezing episodes and fatigue. Postural deficits flexion of the head, neck and trunk forward displacement of COG.

| What are the systemic manifestations of PD? | Dementia, bradyphrenia, depression and dysautonomia. Low motivation and passivity related to depression or sensory deprivement from lack of movement.
