Explanation
Distributive Property   To distribute a number through parenthesis by multiplying it.   show 8(x+7) = 8x + 56; 5x(7 + 9y) = 35x + 45xy   The parenthesis are to do first, but they also mean to multiply. If you multiply a number to each term inside, you get distributive property.
🗑
show To invert the sign of a number.   (7 ) (-1) = -7; -(-9) = 9   -(y) = -y; -(-x) = x   Because the negative sign means to invert the sign, the multiply. Anything time 1 is equal to 1, so just invert the sign when multiplying -1.
