| Sean-nós | A highly ornamented style of traditional Irish singing. The meaning of the words are old style and it is all about singing from the heart or with soul.

| Song Content | The songs are usually based upon loved poetry, historical events or are devotional songs.

| Rhythm | In the sean-nós style, the text carries more importance than the rest of the song. The singers use free rhythm to adapt the tune around the lyrics, slowing and speeding up to suit. This meansthat traditionally the completely unaccompaniied.

| Dynamics | Dynamics are not used to convey emotion, instead the piece is highly ornamented
