What are patriotic songs/ aislingi? | The aisling is a type of patriotic song based on an 18th century Irish poem. The poet has a vision of a beautiful woman who represents Ireland. She fills him with a desire to fight for his country. Ex' Taimse im chodladh' |
What are dandling songs? | Childrens play songs which would be sung to a child whilst being bounced on ones knees. Ex 'Dillin o deamhas' |
What are lullabies/suantrai? | Gentle soothing songs with a rocking rhythm to rock a baby to sleep. Ex 'Einini' |
