| Question | Answer |
| Energy | The ability to do work or make objects/molecules move |
| Kinetic Energy | Energy that is moving (even if you can't see it, like electricity moving in a wire) |
| Potential Energy | Stored energy (like holding a book above a table) |
| Heat | Called Thermal Energy, a type of kinetic energy, measured using a thermometer |
| temperature | data collected in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit. Temperature shows how much thermal energy is in an object |
| Gravitational Potential Energy | Energy of position. GPE increases with height (higher from ground = more GPE) and mass (more mass = more GPE). Example: A roller coaster at the top of a hill |
| Transformed | Energy changing into another type. Example: Dropping a basketball on the ground changes Gravitational potential energy into kinetic energy of motion |
| Transferred | Moving energy from one place to another. Example: Your mom giving you an apple. She is moving chemical energy from her hand to yours. |
| Law of Conservation of Energy | The law that states that energy can not be made or disappear but is just moved around |
| nonrenewable resource | Energy from sources like fossil fuels (gas, oil, natural gas, coal) that once used cannot be replaced |
| renewable resource | Energy from sources like the sun, wind, hydro electric, tidal, etc. that are not used up |
| mass | the amount of matter in an object |
| volume | the amount of space an object takes up |
| energy efficiency | how much energy can be converted into a useful form (Amount of energy used for required or needed purpose vs energy put into the system) |
