| Greenhouse effect | Natural situation in which heat is retained in Earth's atmosphere by carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor, and other gases |
| Global Warming | An increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere |
| Ozone | A form of oxygen that has three oxygen atoms in each molecule instead of the usual two |
| Climate | Overall weather in an area over a long period of time |
| Sustainability | the ability to maintain |
| Renewable resource | natural resource that can be replaced at the same rate at which the resource is consumed |
| Non renewable resource | a resource that cannot be reused or replaced easily |
| Biodegradable | Capable of being broken down by bacteria and other decomposers |
| Non-biodegradable | Pollutants that cannot be broken down by natural resources |
| Composting | process of helping biodegradable wastes to decompose naturally |
| Migration | relocation |
| Emission | the production and discharge of something, especially gas or radiation |
| Absorption | process in which incident radiated energy is retained without reflection or transmission on passing through a medium |
| EM Spectrum | all types of EM waves arranged in order of their frequency and wavelength |
| Troposphere | lowest layer of Earth's atmosphere |
| Mesosphere | 3rd layer of the atmosphere |
| Stratosphere | 2nd layer of atmosphere |
| Thermosphere | outermost layer of Earth's atmosphere |
| Conduction | Form of heat transfer where heat energy is directly transferred between molecules through molecular collisions or direct contact |
| Albedo | Ability of a surface to reflect light |
| Natural resources | Materials or substances such as minerals, forests, water, and fertile land that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain |
| River Delta | an area of fertile land in the shape of a triangle which in Greek is the shape of the letter Delta |
| Soil erosion | Movement of soil components, especially topsoil, from one place to another, usually by wind, flowing water, or both |
| Drought | long period of dry weather |
| Mass migration | population movements of a large number of people |
| Sea level | average level of the ocean's surface at any given time |
| Conservation | Ability to recognize that objects can e transformed in some way, visually or phycially, yet still be the same in number, weight, substance, or volume |
| Recycling | Convert waste into reusable material |
