| Term | Definition |
| Integer | The whole numbers and their opposites. |
| Signed Number | Positive and negative numbers. |
| Absolute Value | The distance a number is from 0 on a number line |
| Additive Inverse | A number that when added to another number gives the sum zero. |
| Commutative Property of Addition | Numbers can be added in any order and the sum will remain the same. a + b = b + a |
| Associative Property of Addition | Changing the grouping in which numbers are added, doesn't affect the result of the sum. (a + b) + c = c + (b + a) |
| Additive Property | Any number added to 0 remains unchanged. a + 0 = a |
| Commutative Property of Multiplication | Numbers can be multiplied in any order and the product will remain the same. a(b) = b(a) |
| Associative Property of Multiplication | Changing the grouping in which numbers are multiplied, doesn't affect the result of the product. (a * b) * c = c * (b * a) |
| Distributive Property | The property that states that multiplying a sum by a number is the same as multiplying each addend by the number and then adding the products. a x (b + c) = (a x b) + (a x c) |
| Multiplicative Identity Property | You can multiply 1 to any number and it keeps its identity. The product remains the same. a * 1 = a |
| Zero Property of Multiplication | The product of any number with zero is 0. a * 0 = 0 |
| Complex Fraction | A fraction with a fraction in the numerator and/or a fraction in the denominator. |
| Rational Number | Repeating or terminating decimals; any decimal that can be written in fraction form. |
| Repeating Decimal | A decimal in which, after a certain point, one digit or a set of digits repeat themselves an infinite number of times. |
| Terminating Decimal | A decimal form of a rational number that ends in zero. |
