What did Leewenhoek develope? He developed the first microscope
What did Robert Hooke observe? He observed cork under a microscope and said they looked like jail cells
What did Schleiden discover? That all plants are made up of cells
What did Schwann discover? That all animals are made up of cells
What did Rudolph Virchow study? The reproduction of cells
What organelles do the plant cell that the animal cell does not? Chloroplast and Cell Wall
Prokaryote Organisms whose cells lack nuclei. ex./ bacteria
Eukaryote organisms whose cells contain nuclei. ex./ plants, animals, fungi
What is the function of the Nucleus Controls the center of the cell. Regulates and coordinates cell activities. Contains: DNA
What is the function of the Nuclear Membrane Selects what enters and leaves the nucleus
What is the function of the Nucleolus involved in production of RNA and ribosomes
What is the function of the Ribosomes Site of protein synthesis. Free Ribosomes: float in cytoplasm. Attached Ribosomes: attached to rough ER
What is the function of the Cytoplasm Everything between the cell membrane and nucleus
What is the function of the Vacuole Stores water, food, nutrients, and wastes. (very large in plants)
What is the function of the Cell Membrane Separates the cell from it's enviroment. Regulates what comes in and out. Transports, and communicates
What is the function of the Lysosome Digests substances.
What is the function of the Mitochondria Energy is created here through respiration
