Voc.Igneous Rocks

TermDefinition
rock naturally occurring solid composed of minerals, rock fragments, and sometimes other materials such as organic materials. (3 types: Igneous Sedimentary Metamorphic)
igneous rock forms from the cooling of magma or lava (2 types: intrusive and extrusive)
lava magma that erupts onto the Earth's surface (outside)
magma molten rock stored beneath the Earth's surface (inside)
intrusive rock igneous rock that forms as magma cools underground Ex: Granite - Enchanted Rock Fredricksburg, TX
extrusive rock igneous rock that forms as lava erupts, cools, and crystallizes on the Earth's surface. Ex: Basalt (ocean basins) Pumice (tiny holes, scrub and polish feet Obsidion (arrow heads) Perlite (fertilizer)
volcanic glass igneous rock that forms when lava cools too quickly to form crystals. Ex: Obsidion (it is an extrusive rock)
crystal a solid in which the atoms are arranged in a pattern that repeats again and again (found in rocks) More ex: SNOWFLAKES and GEMSTONES
