Strengths of Acids and Bases Neumeyer 8
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Strong Acids | Acid that is ionized almost completely in water. |
Weak Acids | Acid that is only ionized partly in solution. |
Strong Base | Base that is completely dissociated in solution. |
Weak Base | Bbase that is not completely dissociated in solution. |
What does the strength of an acid or base mean? | Acid or base's ease to dissociate in a solution. |
What does the concentration of an acid or base mean? | The amount of of acid or base dissolved in a solution. |
Dilute | Small amount of solute added to solution. |
Concentrated | Large amount of solute added to solution. |
What is PH? | The amount of H+ ions in a solution, or how acidic or basic it is. |
What is a PH scale? | A scale that ranges from 1-14 and is used to show how acidic or basic a acid or base is, having 0-6 as acids and 8-14 as bases. Number 7 on the scale is neither acid nor base, it is neutral (water). |
