Energy The ability to do work
Mechanical Energy Energy of something that is moving
Thermal Energy Energy of heat
Solar Energy Energy produced by the sun
Light Energy Energy in the form of waves that can travel through an empty space
Sound Energy Energy from vibrations
Electrical Energy Energy of moving electrons or electric charges
Absorb To soak up
Reflection/Reflect The bouncing back of light waves off a surface
Refraction/refract The bending of light waves as they move through one medium into another
Prism A glass or transparent object that bends light that separates white light into a spectrum of colors
Transmit To pass on to another
Medium A substance or material that makes it possible for the transfer of energy from one location to another
Generator A device that uses magnets to change mechanical energy into electricity
Current The direction the electricity is moving
Source/Cell Electricity from a battery, solar, cell, fossil fuels or wind generator
Path A wire that a current flows through
Fuse A safety device consisting of a strip of wire that melts and breaks an electric circuit if the current exceeds a safe travel
Parallel A circuit where the electrons have many paths to take. If one light is removed the other lights will still work and will even get brighter.
Switch Turns a circuit on and off
Series An electric current in which electrons have only one path to take. If one light goes out or is removed, they all go out.
