lustrous means shiny
ductile means the metal can be pulled into a wire
malleable means the metal can be hammered into a sheet
conductors allow heat and electricity to go through them
Insulators do not allow heat and electricity to go through them
a metal is an element that tends to form positive ions
a non metal is an element that tends to form negative ions
carbon is a non metal but it does conduct electricity. this is an exception
carbon is pencils is also called graphite
alloys are mixtures of metals
brass is a mixture of copper and zinc
bronze is a mixture of copper and tin
steel is a mixture of iron and carbon
solder is a mixture of lead and tin
rusting is a chemical reaction where iron is changed into rust
conditions necessary for rusting are water and oxygen
calcium chloride removes water
to prevent rusting use paint, oil, grease or galvanise
iron coated with zinc is called galvanise
rusting is also called corrosion
