Fundamentals of Engineering Textbook Chapter 6: Communicating Solutions

TermDefinition
Assembly drawing Show how different parts fit together to create the entire object.
Detail Drawing Engineers use this to show the exact shape and size of an object.
Dimensioning This is a process used to describe the size of the object as well as the location of different features of the design.
Engineering Drawing These are created to communicate products that will be manufactured.
Leader This is a line with an arrow on the end pointing to the feature.
Location Dimension These are used to show the distance between two different features.
Oblique Drawing Like isometric drawings, are drawn in three dimensions, but instead of using a determined angle at the front of the image, the drawing features one side of the object as the front image.
Perspective drawing These are used to show an object from a specific point of view.
Schematic drawing These are used to show how different parts are connected together to form a system.
Shape dimension Used to provide detailed information about the shape of features.
Size dimension Used to describe the length, width, and depth of an object.
Visualization This is the ability to mentally see a representation of a product for which there is no physical object.
Working drawing These are engineering drawings that are the most complete drawings produced.
