2nd grade science terms

TermDefinition
Habitat A place where an animal finds everything it needs to survive including shelter, water, and food
Food Chain Animals eat plants and other animals in a particular order. For example, a mouse eats a plant, a snake eats the mouse, and an owl eats the snake.
Extinct An animal or plant that is not living anymore
Camouflage What an animal does to blend with its environment
Endangered When a species of animal is in danger of not living anymore
Herbivore An animal that eats only plants
Omnivore An animal that eats both animals and plants
Carnivore An animal that eats only animals
Predator An animal that kills other animals and eats them for food
Prey An animal that is caught and eaten by another animal
Amphibian An animal that lives both in water and on land
Mammal Animals with fur or hair that feed milk to their young and whose babies are born alive
