Term | Definition |

Matter | Anything that takes up space and has weight. |
Magnetism | The measure of how matter reacts to a magnet. |
Properties | Physical characteristics that we can use to describe matter. (ex. color, shape, size, temperature, weight) |
Hardness | The measure of how easily the matter can be scratched or crushed. |
Maliability | The measure of how easily matter can be shaped into different forms. If it cannot, but breaks apart instead, it is brittle. |
Conductivity | The measure of how easily matter transports heat or electricity. (ex. metals) |
Melting | When matter changes form from a solid to a liquid as heat is added. |
Evaporation | When matter changes form from liquid to gas as heat is added. |
Solid | A kind of matter that has its own shape. |
Liquid | A kind of matter that does not have its own shape. It pours and takes the shape of the container it is in. |
Gas | A kind of matter that does not have its own shape. It floats and takes the shape of the container it is in, and fills the whole container. It can be invisible. It can smell. |
Volume | The measurement of the amount of space something takes up. |
Invisible | It cannot be seen by the eye. |
Graduated cylinder | A tool to measure the volume of a liquid. |
