addend any numbers that are added together
minuend the first number in a subtraction problem
subtrahend the number that is to be subtracted. The 2nd number in a subtraction problem.
strip diagram a linear model used to illustrate number relationships
fraction a number in the form a/b where a and b are whole numbers and b is not equal to zero
numerator the part of a fraction written above the fraction bar that tells the number of fractional parts specified or being considered
denominator the part of a fraction written below the fraction bar that tells the total number of equal
fraction bar the line that separates the numerator and the denominator
least common denominator (LCD) the least common multiple of the denominators of two or more fractions
multiple a number that can be divided by another number without a remainder
positive rational numbers the set of numbers that can be expressed as a fraction a/b, where a and b are whole numbers, and b does not equal to 0 which includes the subset of whole numbers and counting natural numbers
