Auscultation | Examination by listening to sounds within organs to aid in diagnosis & treatment |
Palpation | Examination by feeling the surface or applying pressure |
Etiology | Cause of a disease or abnormal condition |
Occult | Hidden or not detectable by clinical methods alone, or not present in certain amounts |
Sequalae | Negative aftereffect from disease or injury |
Prophylaxis | Protective treatment made to preserve health & prevent the spread of disease |
Palliative | A type of care that reduces the severity of a disease or condition but not curing it or getting rid of the cause |
Caudal | Directed toward the bottom part of the body |
QID "quater in die" | Four times a day; this abbreviation is used for prescription purposes |
QHS "quaque hora somni" | Every night at bedtime; this abbreviation is used for prescription purposes |
