Auscultation Examination by listening to sounds within organs to aid in diagnosis & treatment
Palpation Examination by feeling the surface or applying pressure
Etiology Cause of a disease or abnormal condition
Occult Hidden or not detectable by clinical methods alone, or not present in certain amounts
Sequalae Negative aftereffect from disease or injury
Prophylaxis Protective treatment made to preserve health & prevent the spread of disease
Palliative A type of care that reduces the severity of a disease or condition but not curing it or getting rid of the cause
Caudal Directed toward the bottom part of the body
QID "quater in die" Four times a day; this abbreviation is used for prescription purposes
QHS "quaque hora somni" Every night at bedtime; this abbreviation is used for prescription purposes
