Properties of Water
6.6 Water
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Cohesion | Water molecules are attracted to water molecules |
Adhesion | Water molecules are attracted to other substances |
Capillary Action | Water molecules move through materials that have spaces in them. |
Surface Tension | Tightness across the surface of water that is caused by water's polar molecules |
Specific Heat | The amount of heat needed to increase the temperature by one degree of Celsius. |
Solvent | Any substances that dissolves another substance |
Polar Molecule | One end of the molecule is slightly positive, while the other end is slightly negative |
Evaporation | Water molecules heat up and change from a liquid to a gas. |
Condensation | The process by which a gas changes to a liquid |
Six Properties of Water | cohesion, adhesion, capillary action, surface tension, universal solvent, and specific heat. |
Zero Degrees Celsius | liquid water freezes |
Water boils | One hundred degrees Celsius |
