constant in algebra: it's a fixed number or a number on its own; in the equation y= mx+ b it is represented by the variable 'b.'
coefficient a number multiplied by a variable in an algebraic expression; in the equation y=mx+b it is represented by the variable 'm.'
equation a statement that two expressions are equivalent
inequality a mathematical sentence that shows the relationship between quantities that are not equivalent.
variable a symbol or letter used to represent a quantity that can change; in the equation y = mx+b it is represented by the variable 'x.'
inverse operation the operation needed to "undo" the operations in an equation
population the entire collection of people, items, or events that are being studied
inference a conclusion made by interpreting data
random sample a sample in which each member of the population has an equal chance of being selected
biased a disproportionate weight in favor of or against an idea or thing, usually in a way that is closed-minded, prejudicial, or unfair.
ACC- slope also referred to as the "steepness" of a line, can be found by finding the difference of two points, comparing the rise to the run
ACC- y-intercept the point at which a linear equation crosses the y-axis
ACC- slope intercept form a linear equation that includes the slope and the y-intercept
ACC- linear equation an equation that can be represented as a straight line on a graph
ACC- origin the point where your x- axis and y-axis cross
