What should a pharmacy technician do if they cannot locate the patient's name in the computer system? call the prescriber's office to obtain the necessary information for identifying the patient correctly.

What should a pharmacy technician do if they suspect that a patient's directions do not match the type of medication prescribed? notify the pharmacist. The pharmacist may need to contact the prescriber for more information.
What are the four most common types of computer alerts that indicate potential problems with the prescription? medication allergy drug to drug interaction, contraindication, and early refill or overuse alert
What are the possible courses of action a pharmacist may take after discussing an alert with a patient or prescriber? cancel the prescription or override the alert
Which type of computer alert is generated if a medication is prescribed to a patient that is not compatible with a chronic condition they have? contraindication
Which two actions should the pharmacy technician take if the computer generates an early refill alert? discuss the timing of the refill with the patient and relay that information to the pharmacist, contact the third party for authorization to refill the prescription if permitted to do so
