QuestionAnswer
How do you calculate the mean? Add up all the data values and divide by the number of data values.
How do you calculate the median? Put numbers in order. Find middle 1 number, this is the median, or Find middle 2 numbers and average them.
How do you find the mode? Find the data value that occurs the most. There can be no mode or several modes.
Where are the frequencies on a histogram? The frequencies are the heights of the bars.
Where are the data values on a histogram? The data values are on the horizontal axis.
What does "at most 5" mean? 5 or fewer
What does "at least 9" mean? 9 or more
What is the symbol for the count of successes? x
What is the symbol for the size of a sample? n (lowercase n)
What is the symbol for the size of a population? N (uppercase N)
What is the symbol for the sample proportion? p-hat
What is the symbol for the population proportion? p (lowercase p)
How do you calculate the sample proportion? x/n (part/total)
How do you calculate the population proportion? x/N (part/total)
What is the Field of Statistics? The study and practice of collecting and analyzing data.
What are Statistics Facts about or summaries of data.
What does Descriptive Statistics do? Describe or summarize the data.
What does Inferential Statistics do? Use sample data to draw conclusions about a population. We must report how reliable the conclusions are.
Convert 3/4 to a decimal. 0.75
Convert 0.25 to a percentage. 25%
Convert 4% to a decimal 0.04
Convert 3% to a fraction 3/100
A histogram has a bar from 0-2 with height 3, and a bar from 3-5 with height 1. What proportion of data values are at least 3? The total is 3+1, and the part is 1. The proportion is 1/4 or 0.25
A dot plot has 2 dots above the number 5, 3 dots above the number 7, and 5 dots above the number 6. What percentage of data values are at most 5? The total is 2+3+5=10, and the part is 2. The proportion is 2/10 or 0.2, so the percentage is 20%.
Calculate the mean: 1, 2, 6 (1+2+6)/3 = 9/3 = 3
Calculate the median: 1, 2, 6 2
Calculate the median: 1, 5, 7, 3 In order, we have 1, 3, 5, 7. There are 2 middle numbers 3 and 5, so we must average them. (3+5)/2 = 8/2 = 4
Calculate the mode: 1, 2, 6 no mode
Calculate the mode: 1, 2, 6, 5, 1 1
1, 2, 6, 5, 1, 5 1 and 5 are the modes
A data set has a histogram with most of the values on the right side (so most of the values are large numbers), and has a long tail on the left side (so only a few values are small numbers). What shape distribution is the histogram showing? Skewed Left (or Left Skewed)
A data set has a histogram in which the left half is a mirror image of the right half. What shape distribution is the histogram showing? Symmetrical
A data set has all the heights of the bars at roughly the same height. What shape distribution is the histogram showing? Uniform
A data set has a histogram with most of the values on the left side (so most of the values are small numbers), and has a long tail on the right side (so only a few values are large numbers). What shape distribution is the histogram showing? Skewed Right (or Right Skewed)
If we take a _____________ enough ______________ sample, then the proportion of successes in the sample will be a very good approximation of the population proportion. If we take a LARGE enough RANDOM sample, then the proportion of successes in the sample will be a very good approximation of the population proportion.
If we take a large enough random sample, then the _______________ of _________________ in the sample will be a very good approximation of the population proportion. If we take a large enough random sample, then the PROPORTION of SUCCESSES in the sample will be a very good approximation of the population proportion.
If we take a large enough random sample, then the proportion of successes in the sample will be a very good approximation of the ______________ ____________________. If we take a large enough random sample, then the proportion of successes in the sample will be a very good approximation of the POPULATION PROPORTION.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
