Interdendence | Every organism relies on other organisms to survive |
Individual | A single organism |
Population | A group of organisms of one species that interbreed and live together in a defined area |
Species | A group of individuals similar to one another that can breed and create fertile offspring |
Community | A group of populations comprised of MANY species that live together in defined area |
Ecosystem | A combination of communities and the physical (nonliving) environment |
Biome | A large area with a particular climate and species of plants and animals that live there |
Biodiversity | The variety of organisms and the ecosystems in which they occur |
Ecological Diversity | Different ecosystems in the region |
Species Diversity | Different species within certain ecosystems |
Abiotic | Non living factors |
Biotic | Living factors |
Habitat | A place where a particular population lives |
Succession | Ecosystems evolving |
Primary Succession | An ecosystems evolution where no soil previously existed |
Secondary Succession | An ecosystems evolution where soil is previously exists |
Energy transformation | The change of energy from one type to another |
Food web | A diagram that models feeding relationships with in an ecosystem |
Competition | When 2 or more organisms compete for the same resources |
Ecology | The study of relationships of one organism to another and to their environment |
Energy | The ability to cause objects to change, move or work |
Energy Transfer | The transfer of energy from on object to another |
Invasive species | A species that was introduced to an area with no natural predators and causes harm to the ecosystem |
Mutualism | A symbiotic relationship between organisms where both benefit |
Parasitism | A symbiotic relationship where one organism benefits and the other is harmed |
Commensalism | A symbiotic relationship where on organism benefits and the other does not benefit and is NOT harmed |
Range | The area that an organism lives in |
Symbiosis | The relationship between organisms |
