Absolute Value | the distance of a number from zero on a number line |
Additive Inverse | the opposite of a number |
Associative Property | the property that says that the sum or product of three or more numbers is always the same |
Commutative Property | two or more numbers that can be added or multiplied in any order without changing the sum or product |
Complex fraction | a fraction that contains one or more fractions in the numerator |
Distributive Property | a property indicating a special way in which multiplication is applied to addition of two or more numbers in which each term inside a set of parentheses can be multiplied by a factor outside the parentheses |
Dividend | the number that is being divided |
Divisor | the number you divide by |
Equivalent | equal in value |
Equivalent Fraction | fractions that have the same value |
Estimate | to form an approximate calculation |
Evaluate | to determine the value of a numerical or algebraic expression |
Horizontal | side to side |
Identity Property | the sum of any number and 0 is that number; the product of 1 and any number is that number |
Integers | the set of whole numbers and their opposites |
Inverse Operations | operations that undo each other (addition/subtraction) (multiplication/division) |
Order of Operations | the set of rules that are followed when evaluating expressions |
Product | the answer to a multiplication problem |
Quotient | the answer to a division problem |
Rational Number | a number that can be written as a fraction or decimal |
Reciprocal | a number that when multiplied by another number results in 1 |
Repeating Decimal | a decimal that repeats a digit (or group of digits) forever |
Signed numbers | numbers with a positive or negative sign |
Sum | the answer to an addition problem |
Terminating Decimal | a decimal number that ends or terminates |
Vertical | up and down |
Zero Pair | a set of two opposite numbers that equal 0 when combined |
