QuestionAnswer
ATP The form of chemical energy cells use to do their work.
Autotroph An organism that can make its own food.
Bromothymol Blue (BTB) An indicator in determining pH; it can turn from blue, to green, to yellow!
Carbon dioxide A product of cellular respiration. It is needed for photosynthesis. It is a gas.
Cellular respiration The process by which organisms use oxygen to break down food molecules to get chemical energy for cells to do their work.
Chemical energy The energy that is stored in the bonds of atoms and molecules.
Chemical equation A process that shows how substances are combined together to create new substances.
Chloroplast The organelle that does photosynthesis; it makes food for plants, some bacteria, and some protists.
Consumer An organism that has to eat other organisms for food. A synonym is heterotroph.
Eukaryote An organism that has a cell or cells with a nucleus.
Food chain The order in which organisms depend on each other for food.
Glucose The sugar that is the main source of energy for cells; it is the sugar produced by photosynthesis.
Heart The organ that pumps blood throughout the body.
Heterotroph An organism that has to eat other organisms for food.
Lungs The organ that puts oxygen into the blood and takes carbon dioxide out of the blood.
Mitochondrion The organelle that does cellular respiration; it provides the cell with energy.
Organ A structure made of different tissues that work together to perform a specific function.
Organelle A part of a cell that does a specific job.
Organism A living thing made of one or more cells.
Oxygen A product of photosynthesis. It is needed for cellular respiration. It is a gas.
Photosynthesis The process by which a plant makes its own food.
Producer An organism that can make its own food. A synonym is autotroph.
Product A substance that gets created in a chemical equation.
Prokaryote An organism that does not have a cell with a nucleus.
Rate A ratio that compares two quantities with different units of measure, like heart beats per minute.
Reactant A substance that gets combined with another substance in a chemical equation.
Respiration Breathing in and breathing out; the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the lungs.
Respiratory System The many organs that work together that allow you to breathe.
Sugar A product of photosynthesis. It is needed for cellular respiration. It is a solid.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
