Ch5 Power Tools 1-20

QuestionAnswer
Air supply system provides clean, dry air pressure for numerous tools and equipment
Air compressor is made up of an electric motor, air pump, and large air storage tank
Compressor air filter prevents airborne dust and dirt from entering and damaging the air pump's moving parts
Compressor circuit breaker protects the electric motor from overheating damage
Compressor drain valve on the bottom of the tank allows you to drain out water
Automatic drain valve periodically opens a solenoid operated valve on the bottom of the air compressor to remove moisture from the storage tank
Compressor pressure sensor is an electrical device that cuts current to the motor when normal system pressure is reached
Compressor pressure relief valve prevents too much pressure from entering the tank. It is a spring loaded valve that opens at a predetermined pressure, usually around 90 to 120 psi
Air tank shut off valve is a hand valve that isolates the tank pressure from shop line pressure. It should be closed at night or when the compressor is not going to be used.
Compressor oil plugs are provided for filling and changing air pump oil. The oil level in the compressor should be checked regularly and the oil changed periodically.
Shop air lines thick steel pipes that feed out from the compressor tank to several locations in the collision repair shop
Air hoses flexible synthetic rubber air hoses connect the metal pipes to the air tools and equipment
Air hose sizes 1/4 inch (6 mm), 5/16 inch (8 mm) and ⅜ inch (10 mm) inside diameters. 8mm is the preferred diameter.
Air couplings allow you to quickly install and remove air hoses and air tools
Air pressure regulator is used to precisely control the amount of pressure fed to air tools and equipment.
Air line filter drier used in the air line to remove moisture and debris from the air flowing through the air lines. It is designed to trap and hold water and oil that passes out of the compressor air pump.
Air filter drain valve allows you to remove trapped water and oil from the filter. It should be opened every evening to purge this unwanted material.
Air tools include hand held spray guns, impact guns, and other tools used in the collision repair shop
Air blow gun is used to blow dust and dirt off the vehicle and its parts
OSHA approved blow gun has pressure relief holes in the nozzle tip. This helps prevent injury if the blow gun is accidentally pressed against your body
