decomposer | an organism that gets energy and nutrients by breaking down the remains of other organisms |
consumer | an organism that eats other organisms. |
herbivore | a consumer that eats plants. |
carnivore | a consumer that eats other consumers |
omnivore | a consumer that eats producers and consumers. |
scavengers | consumer that feeds on dead or dying organisms |
chemical energy | the energy stored in the bonds between atoms, it is released when the bonds are broken down |
food chain | the path of energy transfer from producers to consumers. |
primary consumer | the consumer that eats producers |
secondary consumer | a consumer that eats a primary consumer |
tertiary consumer | a consumer that eats a secondary consumer |
food web | a diagram that shows the feeding relationships among many different organisms |
