Ecosystem
Term | Definition |

Biotic | a living thing, as an animal or plant, that influences or affects an ecosystem. |
Abiotic | a nonliving condition or thing, such as climate or habitat, that influences or affects an ecosystem and the organisms in it. |
Ecosystem | a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment. |
Habitat | a place where an organism makes its home. |
Organism | something having many related parts that function together as a whole. |
Population | all the inhabitants of a particular town, area, or country. |
Community | a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common. |
Biosphere | The region on, above, and below the Earth's surface where life exists |
Producer | a person, company, or country that makes, grows, or supplies goods or commodities for sale. |
Consumer | a person who purchases goods and services for personal use |
Decomposer | organism that breaks down dead organic material; |
Herbivore | an organism that mostly feeds on plants. |
Carnivore | an animal that feeds on other animals. |
Omnivore | an animal or person that eats food of both plant and animal origin |
Scavenger | a person who gathers things that have been discarded by others, as a junkman |
Food Chain | a linear sequence of organisms where nutrients and energy is transferred from one organism to the other. |
Primary Consumer | animals that eat plants. |
Secondary Consumer | organisms, primarily animals, which eat primary consumers. |
Tertiary Consumer | an animal that obtains its nutrition by eating primary consumers and secondary consumers. |
Autotroph | an organism that can produce its own food using light, water, carbon dioxide, or other chemicals. |
Heterotroph | an organism that eats other plants or animals for energy and nutrients. |
