Chapter 2 Vocab

TermDefinition
Active Patient An established patient that has seen the provider within the last 3 years
Button (Save, Confirm, Cancel, or Exit) An option that the user can click that executes a command
Check Box (For when more than one response is appropriate) A specialized button that can be on/off (Checked or Not Checked)
Closed Patient Record A RECORD of the patient that has been seen in the last 10 years OR a record of a patient that will NOT be returning
Default A preselected value or setting that will be used unless the user specifies a substitute by overriding the selected options
Field Blank spaces on a form designed for specific numeric or text data
Inactive Patient An established patient that has NOT been seen by a provider of the organization within the last 3 years
Radio Button (Visible round button = ON) (Blank Circle = OFF) Tells the user that only one response is appropriate
Retention Period The amount of time that medical records, by law, must be maintained by the medical office
