Body Systems

6th Grade Human Body Systems

TermDefinition
Enodcrine system Glands and organs that use hormones to control body's energy level, reproduction, heart rate and much more.
Endocrine system Includes the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, thyroid, thymus and works with the pancreas, ovaries and testes.
Nervous system This system sends messages back and forth between the control cetner and the body.
Nervous system Includes the brain, spinal cord and nerves.
Musculoskeletal system The body system that provides support, stability, shape, and movement to the body.
skeleton Serve to protect the body's organs, support the weight of the body, and give the body shape.
muscles Attached to the bones, pulling on them to allow for movement of the body.
Circulatory system Made up of blood vessels that carry blood away from and towards the heart.
Circulatory system Carries oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to cells, and removes waste products, like carbon dioxide.
Respiratory system The system that takes in the oxygen needs for all of our cells to do their jobs as well as removes the carbon dioxide waste from our cells and body.
Respiratory system Works closely with the circulatory system to pump oxygenated blood through out the body.
Immune system The system that fights disease, made up of the skin, white blood cells and lymph nodes.
Immune system Works closely with the skeletal system due to the bone marrow that produces white blood cells.
Lymph nodes filters that trap bacteria and viruses and carry the white blood cells to fight the sickness.
Small Intestine Carries out most of the digestive process, absorbing almost all of the nutrients you get from foods into your bloodstream.
Digestive System Parts of the body that work together to turn food and liquids into the building blocks and fuel that the body needs.
Large Intestine Purpose is to absorb water and salts from the material that has not been digested as food, and get rid of any waste products left over.
Pancreas Makes enzymes that help digest proteins, fats, and carbs. It’s found below the stomach.
Excretory System Includes the bladder, kidneys, ureter, urethra and works closely with the skin, lungs, liver and intestines to rid of waste.
Tissue Made up of similar cells that perform similar functions.
Cell The smallest unit that can live on its own and that makes up all living organisms and the tissues of the body.
