Mitosis

Part C

QuestionAnswer
what is interphase? When the cell is growing and developing
What is the growth phase? There are 2 growth phases, it's when the cell is growing and developing it's organelles and happens at the start and after synthesis
what phase is when the chromosomes double in the nucleus? Synthesis phase
what is mitosis? When the cell divide into 2 daughter (same) cell
What is the prophase? Centrioles move to opposite poles. Nuclear envelopes disappears. Chromosomes coil up into visible structure.
What is the metaphase? Spindle fibre attach on to the chromosomes and line them up in the middle. Spindle fibre attach on to the centromere.
what is the anaphase? Spindle fibre retracts and pull 1/2 the chromosomes towards each centrioles.
What is the telophase? Spindle fibre are back in the centrioles. Nuclear envelopes starts to form back around both set of chromosomes. Chromosomes uncoil and becomes chromatin.
What is cell checkpoints? The three main parts of the cell cycle where protein determine whether the cell should divide or not, if the cell does not pass the signal check, it is repaired or destroyed.
Where are the cell checkpoints? 1st checkpoint is on the growth phase - lack of nutrients to support growth. 2nd checkpoint is on synthesis phase - DNA strands have not been replicated or is damage. 3rd checkpoints metaphase - chromosomes have not been attach to spindle fibre.
What is cytokinesis? Cell membrane pinches off in the middle and separates into 2 daughter (same) cell
What is apoptosis? the death of cells which occurs as a normal and controlled part of an organism's growth or development.
What are cancer cells? can undergo mitosis an unlimited times. never dies on its own. does not function normally.
what is a tumor? Cells that clump together due to an uncontrollable urge to divide.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
