Mitosis

Part C

QuestionAnswer
What are the two main phases of interphase? The two main phases of interphase are the growth phase (G1) and the synthesis phase (S).
What is mitosis? Mitosis is the process of cell division that results in two genetically identical daughter cells.
What is the first stage of mitosis called? The first stage of mitosis is called prophase, during which the chromatin condenses into chromosomes.
In which stage of mitosis do the chromosomes align in the center of the cell? The chromosomes align in the center of the cell during metaphase.
What happens during anaphase? During anaphase, the sister chromatids are pulled apart and move towards opposite poles of the cell.
What is the final stage of mitosis? he final stage of mitosis is telophase, during which the chromosomes begin to decondense and a nuclear envelope reforms around each set of chromosomes.
What are cell checkpoints? Cell checkpoints are control mechanisms in the cell cycle that ensure the cell is ready to proceed to the next phase.
What is cytokinesis? Cytokinesis is the process of dividing the cytoplasm of a cell to form two separate daughter cells.
What is apoptosis? Apoptosis is programmed cell death, which is a normal part of the development and maintenance of multicellular organisms.
What are cancer cells? Cancer cells are cells that have lost the ability to control their growth and division, leading to the formation of tumors.
What is a tumor? A tumor is a mass of abnormal cells that can be either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
What role do cell checkpoints play in the cell cycle? Cell checkpoints ensure that the cell is ready to progress to the next phase of the cell cycle, preventing the division of damaged or incompletely replicated cells.
How do cancer cells differ from normal cells in terms of growth and division? Cancer cells grow and divide uncontrollably, unlike normal cells which follow a regulated cell cycle.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.
