What are the properties of non-ferrous metals They aren't magnetic, they tarnish and oxidize and don't contain iron
Name some ferrous and non-ferrous metals Ferrous - Steel, Non-ferrous - Gold, Aluminum, Silver
What are alloys and why do we use them Alloys are a mixture of 2 or more metals or substances. We use them to get the properties of both substance and the best of both worlds

What are thermo-setting plastics Thermosetting plastics SET after they are heated. They go through a chemical change when they are heated and this cannot be reversed. If you try to reheat these they will burn instead of melting.
What are some thermo-plastics and their uses Acrylic- (Perspex). Used in the metalwork room. Polyethylene – Used for shopping bags and buckets. Polyvinylchloride – (PVC) Used for windows and guttering on a house. Nylon – Used for gears and bearings or bushings
What are some thermo-setting plastics and their uses Bakelite – this was the first true synthetic plastic. It is used on electrical fittings and saucepan handles. Polyester Resins – these are often reinforced with glass fibre which improves their strength a lot.
What are the 3 types of wood and name their examples Hardwood - Oak, Ash, Mahogany Softwood - red deal, white deal, larch Manufactured board - MDF (Medium density fiberboard), block board, chip board.
