Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Question
Answer
atom   The smallest particle of an element.
🗑
proton   A positively charged particle in the nucleus of an atom with a mass of 1 a.m.u. It determines the identity of the atom.
🗑
neutron   A particle in the nucleus of an atom with no charge and has a mass of 1 a.m.u.
🗑
electron   A negatively charged particle that flies around the nucleus of an atom that has almost no mass.
🗑
nucleus   The positively charged center of an atom. This is where almost all of the atom's mass is located.
🗑
valence electron   The electrons located farthest from the nucleus that determines how chemically reactive the atom will be.
🗑
electron cloud   The area outside the nucleus of an atom where the electrons fly.
🗑
atomic number   The number of protons in an atom. This determines the atom's identity.
🗑
mass number   The total number of protons and neutrons in an atom.
🗑
neutral   Having no electric charge; not positive or negative.
🗑
neutral atom   Atoms have no electrical charge because they have the same number of electrons (-) and protons (+).
🗑
ion   An atom that has lost or gained an electron and now has an electrical charge (+ or -)
