Term | Definition |

Posture | the way that we sit or stand when we sing |
Bar Line | separates the notes into groups and measures |
Double Bar Line | ends the song or a section of the song |
Repeat sign | repeats a section of the song |
Fermata | hold a note for two times the value |
Key Signature | indicates where "Do" or tonic is located on the staff |
Time Signature | indicates how many beats are in a measure |
Duple Meter | music divided in groups of two |
Triple Meter | music divided in groups of three |
Diction | the way the words are pronounced |
Dictation | writing down the music you hear in note form |
Staff | five lines and four spaces where music is written |
Treble Clef | indicates higher notes, sopranos and altos sing on this clef |
Bass Clef | indicates lower notes, tenors and basses sing on this clef |
Quarter Note | 1 beat of sound |
Quarter Rest | 1 beat of silence |
Half Note | 2 beats of sound |
Half Rest | 2 beats of silence |
Whole Note | 4 beats of sound |
Whole Rest | 4 beats of silence |
Eighth Note | 1/2 a beat of sound |
