Hospital Institution that provides medical or surgical care and treatment for the sick or injured.
Hospice Program that provides care for the terminally ill while allowing them to die with dignity.
Genetic Counseling Centers Facility helps individuals who are pregnant or considering pregnancy by performing prenatal screening test, and checking for genetic abnormalities.
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) Set of federal regulations adopted to protect the confidentiality of patient information and the ability to retain health insurance coverage.
World Health Organization (WHO) An international agency that compiles statistics and information on disease, publishes health information, and investigates and addresses serious health problems throughout the world.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Concerned with causes, spread, and control of diseases in populations.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Is a federal agency responsible for regulating food and drug products sold to the public.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Establishes and enforces standards that protect workers from job related injuries and illnesses.
Voluntary / Non-Profit Agency Supported by donations, membership fees, fundraisers, and federal or state grants.
Medicaid A medical assistance program operated by individual states that assist individuals with low income, children who qualify for public assistance, and individuals who are physically disabled or blind.
Medicare A federal government program that provides health care for almost all individuals over the age of 65 and for any persons with a disability.
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) A type of health insurance plan usually provided by large industries or companies to their employees to provide certain types of health care at reduced rates.
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) A type of health insurance plan that requires the insured person to use only affiliated health care providers or they must pay for the care.
Workers Compensation Is a health insurance plan providing treatment for workers injured on the job.
