DefinitionAnswer
A cloudlike cluster of stars or a hazy mass of cosmic dust particles and gases that occurs in interstellar space. These are thought to be the birthplace of stars. Nebula
The first stage in the formation of a star, consisting of a contracting mass of gases and cosmic dust, but not yet a true star. Protostar
A star near the end of the stellar life cycle that has expanded to a much larger size. Red Giant

A small, hot star, which is actually the left-over core of a red giant star that ran out of fuel. These stars are basically at the end of the stellar life cycle. White Dwarf Star
A dense ball of atomic particles that remains at the core of a star after a supernova explosion has destroyed the rest of the star. Neutron Star
A region of space where the pull of gravity is so great that nothing, not even light, can escape. Believed to be the theoretical remains of a supermassive star that has collapsed upon itself. Black Hole
A system of stars, cosmic dust, and gas held together by gravity. Types include: spiral, elliptical and irregular. The one in which we live is called the Milky Way. Galaxy
