Biz Kids Vocab Terms
Term | Definition |

Accuracy | A measure of errors in keyboarding |
Application Program | Use one of these to perform a certain task on the computer (Word and Typing Time are examples) |
Backspace | To erase the letter/character to the left of the cursor |
Block Letter | A letter that has all information starting at the left margin |
CAPSLOCK | Use this key to type several capital letters in a row |
Cursor | The blinking vertical line where text will be keyed |
Delete | To erase the letter/character to the right of the cursor |
Double Space | Pressing the Enter Key twice to get one blank line between lines of text |
Icon | A small image on the desktop that represents files and programs |
Landscape | When a page is wider than it is tall (11” by 8 ½”) |
Margin | The space around the outside of a page where text is not keyed |
Network (H) Drive | The place where you save the files you create (only you have access to it) |
Open Punctuation | When there is no punctuation in the greeting or the closing of a letter |
Portrait | When a page is taller than it is wide (8 ½” by 11”) |
Proofread | To read through a document to check for errors |
Quadruple Space | Pressing the Enter Key four times to get three blank lines between lines of text |
Resource (R) Drive | The place where everyone can open the same file (you cannot save here) |
Ribbon | Appears at the top of every Word document and is the command center for Word |
Serif Font | Font that has extra lines/tails |
Shift Key (Left and Right) | Use this key to type only one capital letter |
Shortcut Keys | A single key or combination of keys used to perform a task, instead of using a mouse |
Tab | To indent a line every half inch from the left margin |
Technique | The form or keying style that a person uses while operating the keyboard |
Text Wrap | When a digital picture, Clip Art, or WordArt needs to be moved from its present location, you must use this command |
Word Wrap | When the computer runs out of room at the right margin and the text needs to continue to the next line, it is called this |
