TermDefinition
active cell currently selected cell in a spreadsheet, it can be identified by a bold outline that surrounds the cell.
function are similar to math functions, considered the building blocks of computer programs.
formula a calculation that is performed on one or more valuables, used to process data that is passed through the function and output the result
spreadsheet document that stores data in a grid of horizontal rows and vertical columns
cell a specific location within a spreadsheet and is defined by the intersection of a row and column
rows A horizontal group of values within a table, contains values for multiple fields, which are defined by columns
columns vertical group of values within a table, contains values from a single field in multiple rows
archive single file that contains multiple files and/or folders
DCIM "digital camera images" standard name of the root folder digital cameras use to save digital photos
drop down menu horizontal list of options that each contain a vertical menu(click on a list of options a list of choices will drop down)
file extension "extension" the suffix at the end of a file name that indicates what type of file it is.
file format defines the structure and type of data stored in a file. may include header, metadata, saved content and an end-of-file marker
file type A name given to specific kind of file. Microsoft document and adobe Photoshop are two different file types.
minimize when you lower a window, you hide it from view.
multitasking processing multiple tasks at one time. trying to drive and eat at the same time is an example
operating system "OS" software that communicates with the hardware and allows other programs to run. provides basic functionality for every device.
piracy someone installs and uses commercial software without paying for the program, it is known as pirating.
plug in An add-on for a program that adds functionality to it. example: Photoshop plug in may add extra filters that can be used to manipulate images.
pop up type of window that opens without the user selecting "new window". type of menu that pops up on the screen when the user right clicks a certain object or area.
power point presentation program developed by Microsoft. allows users to create anything from basic slide shows to complex presentations
public domain describes a work or product that is not protected by copyright.
title bar section at the top of the window that contains the name or description of the window. several windows are tiled across the screen at one time, a user can identify each window by just glancing at the title bar.
virus small programs or scripts that can negatively effect the health of your computer.malicious little programs can create files, move files, erase files, consume your computer's memory, and cause your computer not to function correctly
word wrap when a line of text automatically "wraps" to the next line when it gets to the end of a page or text file. used to keep the text within the default margin of the page.
worm type of virus that replicates itself, but does not alter any files on your machine. Or can mean a disc to be written once but read an unlimited amount of times
