Chapter 10 Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Communication involves sharing ideas and feelings with other people both verbally and nonverbally.
Verbal Communication communication that involves speaking and/ or writing.
Nonverbal Communication communication tht includes the inflection of the voice, movements of the body, and emotions. Eye contact, facial expressions,and body gestures.
Inner Communication involves getting in touch with yourself-with your own feelings.
Open Communication being honest and letting the other person know your true thoughts and feelings.
Informational Level involves communicating thoughts,ideas, plans,beliefs or stories.
Hidden Messages messages that occur when someone says one thing, but is really implying another.
Emotional Level involves communicating feelings.
Body Language consists of body movements,facial expressions, and posture.
Behavioral Level this level of communication involves doing.
Listening requires a conscious, active effort to understand a message.
feedback provides a "mirror" that helps the sender decide if the message has been received.
Conflict occurs in a relationship when there is disagreement.
Negotiation working with one another to find a solution to a problem.
Compromise occurs when each person involved in a conflict is willing to give up something in order to resolve it.
"I" Messages messages that help the other person understand how you preceive the situation.
"You" Messages messages that tend to attack the person rather than the problem.
Problem Ownership often used in conflict situations. Trying to determine whose problem it is.
