oral tradition | passing down stories by word of mouth from generation to generation. |
rhyme | repetition of sounds at the end of words |
rhyme scheme | a pattern of end rhymes in a poem |
couplet | a rhymed pair of lines |
haiku | a form of Japanese poetry in which 17 syllables are arranged in 3lines of 5,7,5 syllables. |
stanza | a group of 2 or more lines that form a unit in a poem (paragraph) |
ballad | a narrative poem with strong rhyme and rhythm usually meant to be sung. |
Limereck | a short humorous poem composed of 5 lines. It has a rhyme scheme of aabba and a sing song rhythm. |
rhythm | uniform or patterned recurrence of a beat or accent. |
refrain | one or more lines repeated in each stanza of a poem(chorus). |
narrative | tells a story |
