flashback | A scene in a story that returns the reader to a time in the past. |
mood | The feeling or atmosphere that a writer creates for the reader. It is intended to shape the reader’s emotional response. |
plot | The action or events of a story. |
prefix | A word part that is added to the beginning of a base word that changes the sense or meaning of the root or base word. |
stanza | A recurring grouping of two or more verse lines in a poem. It is similar to a paragraph. |
foreshadow | A writer’s use of hints or clues to indicate events that will occur in a story. |
legend | A myth or traditional story, handed down from one generation to another. |
metaphor | A comparison between two unlike things that does not contain the words like or as. |
suffix | A word part that is added to the ending of a root word. |
theme | The main idea or message of a story. |
