Public Policy steady course of action responding to citizens’ problems; formulated by specific political process; adopted, implemented, and enforced by a public agency
Regulatory Policy Policies that compel certain types of behavior
Procedural Policy Make up the rules by which a process happens
Symbolic Policy Define and reflect social values; uphold government principles
Public Opinion What the majority of the public feels about an issue
Public Opinion Poll Measure of public opinion by asking people how they feel about different issues
Mass Media TV, radio, Internet; greatest influence on public opinion
Random Sample Attempt to include a wide segment of the population in a public opinion poll
Bias Baving a one-sided opinion about an issue
Interest Group People with similar beliefs about a specific issue
NAACP Interest group that protects minorities
NOW Interest group that protects women
AARP Interest grouup that protects retirees and older Americans
ACLU Interest group that protects American rights
Lobbyist Hired by an interest group to influence lawmakers on their behalf
Political Action Committee (PAC) Corporation, union, or interest group that can fundraise and campaign on behalf of a candidate in an election
