-meteorology study of atmospheric phenomena
-weather current state of atmoshere
-climate weather over a 30 year period
-air mass a large body of air that takes on the characteristics of the area over which it forms
-air mass modification when the air mass moves and changes with the weather conditions
-Coriolis effect when moving particles are deflected right in the North and left in the South due to the rotation of Earth
-trade winds basic wind zones or systems
-prevailing westerlies wind system that flows at 30 and 60 degrees North and South. (winds move up in an E. direction.)
-polar easterlies wind that blows at 60 latitude by the pole (flows from Northeast to Southeast.)
-jet stream narrow bands of fast, high-altitude, westerly winds
-front narrow region separating two air masses of different densities
-thermometer measures temperature
-barometer measures air pressure
-aneometer measures wind speed
-hygrometer measures relative humidity
-ceilometer measures height of cloud layers and estimates percentage of sky covered with clouds
-radiosonde controlled balloon carrying equipment with sensors to collect data
-Doppler effect the change in wave frequency that occurs in energy ( sound... light) as sound carries away
-station model a record of weather data for a particular site at a particular time
-ispoleths lines to represent pressure that connect constant/equal values
-digital forecast a forecast hat relies on numerical data
-analog forecast forecast that compares current weather patterns to patterns that have occurred in the past
