Calorie | A unit used to measure the energy used by the body and the energy that food suplies to the body. |
Digestion | The process of breaking down food into a form the body can use. |
Proteins | Nutrients that are needed to build, repair, and maintain body cells and tissues. |
Amino Acids | The building blocks that make up proteins. |
Carbohydrates | Starches and sugars that give the body the most of its energy. |
Fiber | Plant material that your body cannot digest. It provides bulk, which helps your body eliminate waste. |
Cholesterol | A waxy substance that is a part of every cell of your body. |
Vitamins | Substances needed in small quantities to help regulate body functins. |
Minerals | Elements needed in small amounts for sturdy bones and teeth, healthy body, and regular elimimnation of body wastes. |
Osteoporosis | A conditioin in which bones gradually lose their mineral content and become weak and brittle. |
