Marji Protagonist who is head strong and independent. at the beginging she is very religious but evolves throughout the book.
Mother Marji's mother, has strong political views and is a big believer in using education to further themselves and their country.

Father Independent and modern person who is protesting against the government along with the rest of his family.
Grandpa Was a prince before the Shah took control and he's the reason they are part royalty.
Mehri Marji's maid who falls in love with the neighbor but because of here social status he doesnt like her back.
Ramin Boy whos dad was in the savak and killed millions of people so Marji and her friends try to beat him up.
Siamak and Mohsen Heros who were in jail for being revolutionaries.
Anoosh Marji's uncle, was put in jail by the shah because of his communist beliefs. Marji looked up to him and considered him her hero. He was later killed by the islamic regime.
The Shah Leader of Iran who caused oppression which eventually led to the revolution in Iran.
Ayatollah a protester the Shah's rule. he was exiled to France after an agresive speech against a law that granted immuntiy to US military personel in Iran.
Marji's Grandmother The person who Marji trusted the most. She was the only person Marji told that she wanted to be a prophet.
God When Marji was a young girl she had a great relationship with God. He was her subconcious who she turned to, to cope with the struggle of her daily life during the revolution.They would talk every night. As Marji matured they slowly became strangers.
Neda Baba-Levy Marji's friend who died in the bombing at the end of the story. After this dramtic moment in Marji's life her mother decided that Marji would be better off in a boarding school in France.
Niloufar communist girl who was executed and lived with the passport forger.
