instituional Revoltionary Party (PRI) Conservative goverments controlled by the one party rule of the PRI acted harshl. The PRI came under attack in the '90s as Mexican peasants protested. Great Leap Forward An economic and social plan issued by Mao Zedong aimed to transform China's agrarian economy into a modern industrialized communist country. Known as "grwat leap back" because of the extreme famine it caused. 1958-1960 39 China
Iran-Iraq War Iraqi president Saddam Hussein declared war on Iran after a long history of border disputes and fears of Shiite insurgency among Iraq's long suppressed Shiite majority influenced by Iran's Islamic revolution.
