Term | Definition |

Word Processing | use of computer software to enter and edit text. An example is MicroSoft Word. |
File Tab | Click it to open a menu, contains commands for working with Microsoft Word files. EX: save, save as, print, new |
Ribbon | contiains commands for working with documents, organized by tabs, big rectangle at top of Word screen under the tabs. Ex: change the font size here |
Quick Access Toolbar | contains icons for 3 common commands, you can add others to it. Example: we added New, Abc Spell Check |
Insertion Point(cursor) | shows where text will appear when you begin typing on your document. Example: the blinking line on your page |
Status Bar | displays information about current document and processes, it starts in bottom left corner of screen Ex: page # and word count |
Zoom Slider | Allows you to increase (+) or decrease (-) the document on the screen. Shows 100% view by default. Ex: bottom right corner of screen |
View Buttons | allows you to change views quickly. There are 5 icons in the bottom right corner. EX: Print Layout view, draft view |
Print Layout view | shows how a document will look when printed. Works with headers, footers, margins, columns, graphics, which are all displayed |
Full Screen Reading View | displayed on screen, easy to read, ribbon is hid and a small toolbar is in its place, has relevant commands on it only Ex: looks like a book on the screen |
Web Layout View | simulates the way documents looks on a webpage, graphics and text appear as they would in a web browser. |
Outline View | displays headings and text in outline form. Headers, Footers, backgrounds, graphics, page margins are not seen. |
Draft View | headers, margins, footers, columns, graphics are not seen, shows only text on document |
Word Wrap | When the text you are typing extends past the right margin it automatically moves to the next line. |
Portrait orientation | documents printed are longer than they are wide |
Landscape orientation | documents printed are wider than they are long |
